{"id":504,"date":"2020-10-30T23:07:49","date_gmt":"2020-10-30T23:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cns72.com\/therapyatplay.com\/?p=504"},"modified":"2020-10-30T23:10:04","modified_gmt":"2020-10-30T23:10:04","slug":"give-your-eyes-a-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cns72.com\/therapyatplay.com\/give-your-eyes-a-break\/","title":{"rendered":"Give Your Eyes a Break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it important to rest your eyes? <\/b>Eye Fatigue (tired eye muscles), dry eyes (less blinking), blurry vision, myopia or nearsightedness<\/p>\n<p><b>Signs of Vision Issues: <\/b>Eye rubbing, headaches, excessive blinking, tired or cranky mood<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>WHAT TO DO<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Environmental Modifications<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adjust the brightness of the screen<\/li>\n<li>Reduce glare by keeping light sources behind the device<\/li>\n<li>Avoid using a device in a dark room or very bright area (outside)<\/li>\n<li>Increase font size on the screen<\/li>\n<li>Use an anti-glare screen filter to cover the computer screen<\/li>\n<li>Wear blue light filtering glasses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Body Positioning<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>90-90-90 seated position at the table (feet flat on the ground and back support)<\/li>\n<li>Keep the screen at eye level<\/li>\n<li>18-24 inch distance from the device (arm\u2019s length)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Eye Exercises\/Breaks<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>20\/20\/20 Rule<\/u>: for every 20 minutes look up at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds<\/li>\n<li><u>Move your body<\/u>: during class breaks, stand up and walk around, stretch your body, do some jumping jacks, etc<\/li>\n<li><u>Eye-rolling<\/u>: slowly roll your eyes from left, to the sky, to the right, and to the ground. Repeat 10x clockwise and counterclockwise<\/li>\n<li><u>Palming<\/u>: rub your hands together and cup your closed eyes for eye relief<\/li>\n<li><u>Clock exercise<\/u>: with a large clock on the wall (real or a print out) say each number as your child looks for the number on the wall.<\/li>\n<li><u>Eye massage<\/u>: softly press fingers onto closed eyelids to relieve pain<\/li>\n<li><u>Eye Pillow<\/u>: use a warm or cold compression eye mask to relieve any eye discomfort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*See an Occupational Therapist for more tips and strategies<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Why is it important to rest your eyes?
